The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features numerous environmental challenges that require players to manipulate the surrounding terrain. Among these hidden tasks is the Master of the Wind shrine quest, which reveals the elusive Shai Yota Shrine in the Lanayru region. Solving this puzzle demands careful observation, smart use of explosives, and precise paraglider navigation.
Starting the Master of the Wind Shrine Quest
To initiate the quest, travel to Horon Lagoon located in the eastern portion of the Lanayru Great Spring region. Look for Kass, the accordion-playing Rito bard, perched near the northern section of the lagoon. Speaking with him reveals an ancient song that hints at breaking wind barriers to unlock a hidden glowing pedestal.
Understanding the riddle requires examining the rock formations scattered throughout the surrounding water. Strong currents of air are currently blocked by fragile stone structures that must be cleared. Identifying every obstructed vent is the first step toward creating a continuous wind tunnel.
Destroying the Rock Formations
Search around the lagoon for three distinct clusters of cracked, breakable rocks. Players can use remote bombs or bomb arrows to shatter these barriers and release the trapped air currents. Once a rock formation is successfully destroyed, a short cutscene will trigger showing the wind flow growing stronger.
Make sure to inspect the interior cave walls and nearby archways to ensure no blocked vents remain. Leaving even a single rock wall intact will prevent the final updraft from reaching the target destination. Take time to navigate around the entire lagoon to confirm all air streams are flowing freely.
Reaching the Shrine Pedestal
After all stone barriers are demolished, a powerful combined air stream forms near the top of the central rock structure. Climb to the highest point of the rock formation to prepare for your final flight toward the orange pedestal. Jump into the main wind gust and deploy your paraglider to ride the current across the lagoon.
It is crucial to maintain your glided descent and land directly onto the orange shrine pad without touching the ground beforehand. Touching the water or surrounding terrain prior to touching the pedestal will fail to trigger the mechanism. Landing squarely on the activated switch triggers the arrival of the Shai Yota Shrine.
Claiming Your Rewards Inside Shai Yota Shrine
Because the main challenge of this shrine occurs outdoors, the interior is classified as a Rauru's Blessing type trial. Players can walk directly to the central treasure chest to collect a powerful Great Flameblade weapon. After securing the treasure, interact with the monk at the altar to receive a Spirit Orb.
Completing this quest provides essential upgrade materials while demonstrating the game's dynamic physics systems. Mastering air currents in Horon Lagoon remains one of the most rewarding navigation puzzles in Hyrule.
